AI grifters are creating fake Black people to sell Shein junk
Scammers are using AI to create fake Black influencers to sell cheap products on TikTok. This deceptive practice exploits both consumers and the Black community, with one account even using a fake Black woman named Aliyah to hawk handmade metal buckles.

Scammers are using AI to create fake Black influencers to sell cheap products on TikTok. One notable example is an account featuring "Aliyah," a light-skinned Black woman dressed in country-western gear, who cries on camera pleading for views: "Even as a black woman, I have more faith that white women will stay 13 seconds [on the video]." The account promotes handmade metal buckles, but the entire persona is AI-generated. These fake influencers, created using AI tools, promote cheap, low-quality items to unsuspecting buyers. The scammers behind these accounts exploit racial stereotypes and manipulate algorithms to gain traction.
This practice harms real Black creators and misleads consumers into buying subpar products. It also perpetuates harmful stereotypes by using AI to create caricatures of Black people. The use of AI in this way highlights the ethical concerns surrounding its use in marketing and social media.
If you see a TikTok account promoting Shein products with suspiciously perfect, AI-generated Black influencers, report it immediately. Look for inconsistencies in their posts, such as unnatural facial features or repetitive content. Always verify the authenticity of influencers before making purchases based on their recommendations.
